Congratulations to JAXA and the Japanese people for this historic lunar landing! This makes Japan the 5th nation to successfully land a spacecraft on the Lunar surface, following closely behind India’s recent historic Lunar landing with their Chandrayaan spacecraft. And the new space race is on!

Although the SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) spacecraft made an ultraprecise landing, it’s unusual touch down procedure, where it lays over on its side at the last moment, caused it to roll over on it top, nozzles pointed up. We hope the lander situation can be corrected so that SLIM can continue to send data back to mission controllers on Earth. But whatever the case, we send out a hearty congratulations to JAXA and the Japanese people for a successful precision landing!
